Traditions and Religion

Minori and the Amalfi Coast are very rich in churches and sacred places. The main religious site in Minori is the Basilica di Santa Trofimena, that cherishes the relics of saint Trofimena, in honor of which celebrations and processions take place on 13 July and 5 November.

A very meaningful period to attend religious celebrations is the Holy Week, when Via Crucis and dramatizations are held in Minori and anywhere along the coast. Especially touching are the Processions of the Battenti, who, hooded and dressed in white parade through the streets of the village with Christ on the cross.

Other highly significant sacred places along the coast are the Duomo di San’Andrea in Amalfi, the Duomo di Ravello, the Chiesa di Santa Maria Teresa dell’Assunta in Positano, the Duomo di San Giovanni Battista in Vietri sul Mare, the Santuario della Madonna dell'Avvocata, still much revered today, above Maiori, and the Santuario dei Santi Cosma e Damiano in Ravello.
